How to install BepInEx for CrewCore

BepInEx is the loader used by the PC packages. The easiest option is to download the complete CrewCore package for your store, but this guide explains what the setup flow expects.

Steam / Epic / Microsoft Store / Xbox App (64-bit)Itch.io (32-bit)DLL only

Download first

Choose the package that matches your store before extracting files.

Folder matters

Files must go into the correct Among Us installation folder.

F1 confirms load

When CrewCore loads, the in-game menu opens with F1.

What to know

Most users should avoid mixing manual DLL files with complete packages unless they understand the BepInEx folder structure.

If CrewCore does not appear in game, the usual causes are wrong platform package, wrong folder, missing BepInEx files or blocked download extraction.

The steps for each store are in Find the folder for your store, so you can match your exact folder before extracting.

Recommended flow

  1. Download the correct package for your platform.
  2. Extract the package into the Among Us folder, not a random downloads folder.
  3. Launch Among Us normally.
  4. The first time, your browser opens to authorize with Discord; the loader then downloads the current version of the mod by itself.
  5. Press F1 and paste your key if activation is required.

Among Us 2026.9.29: Steam is now 64-bit

Since the Among Us 2026.9.29 update (19.0.0), the Steam build is 64-bit, like Epic, Microsoft Store and Xbox App. A 64-bit game cannot load the 32-bit winhttp.dll of an x86 BepInEx, so mods installed that way stop loading on Steam without showing any error.

Fix: use the 64-bit CrewCore package, or BepInEx 6 IL2CPP for Windows x64 for any other BepInEx setup. Itch.io is still 32-bit and has its own 32-bit package.

Find the folder for your store

Every package goes into the folder that contains Among Us.exe. After the first launch, BepInEx creates its config and log files inside the BepInEx folder there; if nothing appears, the files went to the wrong folder.

Steam

  1. In Steam, right-click Among Us, then Manage > Browse local files.
  2. Extract the 64-bit package into the folder that opens, next to Among Us.exe. Steam is 64-bit since the Among Us 2026.9.29 update, so it uses the same package as Epic, Microsoft Store and Xbox App.
  3. Had the old 32-bit Steam / Itch.io package there? Extract the 64-bit package over it and replace the files. If the menu still does not load, delete the BepInEx and dotnet folders, winhttp.dll and doorstop_config.ini, then extract again.

Itch.io

  1. In the itch app, open Among Us and show its local files.
  2. Extract the Itch.io 32-bit package (BepInEx Legacy be.735) there, next to Among Us.exe. The Itch.io build is still 32-bit, so it does not use the 64-bit package.

Epic Games

  1. The usual folder is C:\Program Files\Epic Games\AmongUs. If you installed it somewhere else, Epic shows the path under Library > Among Us > Manage.
  2. Extract the 64-bit package there, next to Among Us.exe.

Microsoft Store and Xbox App

  1. By default the game sits in the protected WindowsApps folder, where Windows does not let you add files. Do not change the permissions of that folder: Windows protects it, and changing it can break Store apps.
  2. In the Xbox app, open Settings > General and, under the game install options, turn on Use advanced installation and management features. Games installed from then on go to a normal folder, by default C:\XboxGames.
  3. If Among Us was already installed, uninstall it and install it again through the Xbox app, so it lands in that folder.
  4. Right-click Among Us in the Xbox app, then Manage > Files > Browse. If the folder that opens has no Among Us.exe, look in its Content subfolder.
  5. Extract the 64-bit package next to Among Us.exe.
  6. If Windows blocks a file with error 0x800711C7 or an "Application Control policy" message, Smart App Control or Memory integrity is blocking unsigned files in the Xbox version. Turning those off lowers the protection of your PC; a Steam, Epic or Itch.io copy of the game avoids the problem.

What BepInEx changes in the folder

BepInEx works as the loader layer between Among Us and the CrewCore ModMenuCrew plugin. A complete package normally adds the BepInEx folder structure, the plugin folder, loader files, and the CrewCore DLL in the place where the game actually launches.

What matters is not the download name but the destination: the files must land in the active Among Us install directory for the store you actually use, or the plugin never loads.

When to reinstall cleanly

  • Among Us was moved to another Steam library or drive.
  • You moved between Itch.io (32-bit) and a 64-bit store (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store, Xbox App).
  • You play on Steam and still had the old 32-bit package from before the 2026.9.29 update.
  • The game opens, but pressing F1 never opens the CrewCore menu.
  • You mixed a DLL-only update with an older complete package.
  • You moved from 6.1.6c to 6.1.7 and the old BepInEx\plugins\ModMenuCrew.dll is still there: delete it, the loader replaces it.
  • Two copies of the ModMenuCrew loader: the three files straight in BepInEx\plugins and a BepInEx\plugins\ModMenuCrew folder. Keep only one.
  • A previous mod loader left duplicate plugin files in the same folder.

Questions answered on this page

What is BepInEx?

BepInEx is the loader structure used by the CrewCore PC packages.

Do complete packages include BepInEx?

Yes. The 64-bit package (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store, Xbox App) and the 32-bit one (Itch.io) include it.

Where should files go?

Into the folder that contains Among Us.exe for your store. The steps for Steam, Itch.io, Epic, Microsoft Store and Xbox App are above.

Does it work with the Microsoft Store or Xbox App version?

Yes, with the 64-bit package. The game has to be outside the protected WindowsApps folder: turn on the advanced installation option in the Xbox app and install Among Us again, as shown above.

What if F1 does nothing?

Check that you used the correct package and extracted into the correct folder.

Do I need the DLL page?

Only for an existing BepInEx setup: it holds just the ModMenuCrew loader (3 DLL files). Since version 6.1.7 the loader keeps the mod up to date by itself.
